Frequently Asked Questions: ???
Is the library catalog
available off-campus or anywhere there is a connection to the internet?
Yes, connect to the library homepage at
www.paloverde.edu/library and
click on the "Find a Book, Video,
DVD" link.
Can I search for videos and DVD's in the library's online catalog?
Certainly. Just go to
www.paloverde.edu/library to search the catalog, do a keyword or subject
search on the
topic you need and look for the prefix of "VCR" for videos and "DVD" for DVD's.
What if I need a book that isn't in the library?
We will try to borrow it through the interlibrary loan service we have
with other libraries. Please allow 7-10 days
minimum for the book to arrive. You can request a book through interlibrary loan
by calling (760) 921-5558 and ask for June.
Unfortunately, we
cannot
borrow videos or any
audio-visual materials from other libraries.
Can I search for journal or periodical articles from home?
Of course! Connect to the library homepage
www.paloverde.edu/library and
click on the "Periodical articles" link.
You will need the off-campus user ID and password however; call the library
during business hours. (There are other
resources that contain periodical articles, but the EBSCOhost database is the
most comprehensive).
How do I get a library card?
Library cards are free to all students. Stop by the library and
fill out a simple application, show a form of I.D.;
and you can receive a library card on
the spot and start borrowing library materials. Library cards are also available for
free
to local residents with a form of I.D. Call for details if you are a
non-resident.
How long can I borrow items?
You may check books out for three weeks; videos and DVD's for one week.
Can I renew items if I need them longer?
Yes, call us at 921-5518 to renew by phone, or stop by the library
(you do not need to bring in your items to
renew them). You may also renew online. Refer to the library's homepage for
instructions.
What if I forget to bring back
my items on the due date?
Overdue fines on books are 10 cents per day, for videos and DVD's
the fine is one dollar per day.
What if I don't return my
items, and don't pay the fines?
You may not be able to register for classes or receive a transcript.
Can I make copies in the library? How much is each copy?
Yes, a black-and-white copy is 10 cents per page.
Does the library have a color copier? Does the library have a color
printer?
The library does not have a color copier, but you can print in
color. Pages printed in color are 35 cents
per page.
Why doesn't the library carry recent best-sellers and lots of fiction?
A college library must support the curriculum of the classes the college
offers.
Although the college library contains some fiction, the public library should
best
be able to meet your recreational reading needs.
